Polka Dots and Strings

I've been waiting for a while for the perfect outfit to wear this head scarf with and I finally found it! I got this top at the on-post thrift store the other day for less than $3 and it's the perfect color to wear with the scarf! I paired it with skinny jeans, a white cami, my blue polka dot earrings and necklace, and sparkly TOMS. When we went to a concert in the park I also wore a blue sweater because it is getting COLD here! It's so not nice! (I was going to say not cool.. but it is cool...) I haven't decided whether I'm going to shorten the strings on the top yet; thoughts?

Purple Zebras

I love presents. Giving them, getting them, watching other people get them, pretty much anything to do with presents is my favorite thing ever. My grandma sent me a present out of the blue the other day and it is SUPER cute! It's a purple scarf with a medallion on it so it's a necklace and a scarf all in one! It's pretty awesome. I paired it with my zebra print skirt, a purple tank with a white top over it, and my black sandals.

It's a Party! Or is it?

Sorry for the poor quality of these pictures, my camera kept dying so I couldn't spend too much time taking pictures. I wore this dress the other day for work and SO many people asked me where I was going afterwards. Wearing a dress is a little rare these days I guess. I got this dress at Kohls on sale a few years ago, my scarf was a gift during a Bible Study program, my earrings were a gift from my sister, and my necklace was a gift from a teacher of mine a few years ago.

Scarf Tying

So I was browsing Pinterest (I know, surprise, right?) and came across a pin that I knew I had pinned before, but I had forgotten about it. I decided to try it. Several (hundred) tries later I was completely frustrated. Of course, my mom got it right the first time. Anyway, I give you...the bow scarf! You can find detailed instructions here, but I'll give you an overview. She tells you to start with one end of your scarf longer than the other, but I found it easier to do with the ends the same length. You then take one end and loop it to make a circle and pinch in the middle to make a bow. Then you want to take your other end and wrap it around the pinched middle. You will be coming up from the bottom with the end on the opposite side of the bow from your body. Wrap that end around it once, then when you bring it back to the top you tie it in a knot. This is the part that messed me up. I thought you were supposed to be knotting it with part of the bow end, but it turns out you knot it completely with the same end. I didn't realize how hard it is to explain in words. Go to her site, she shows you with pictures! If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them!

It's WARM!

Just a little update on my life because I haven't posted in a while, I'm officially in New York now! And it's WARM!!! For real, it was at least 80 degrees yesterday! I can finally wear something that isn't a sweater!
A couple of photos demonstrating my continued lack of selfie ability... But the tree is pretty!

And then the ones my mom took after I gave up.. :) I'm wearing my long red, white, and blue skirt as a dress with a belt, my red scarf as a vest, and my black wedge flip-flops.
Just so you can see the back. I got this idea from Pinterest (I'm addicted). You fold your scarf in half, then take one folded corner and tie it to the corresponding end and viola! A vest! Hope everyone else is enjoying the weather as much as I am!

Reminiscing

So I was looking through my pictures and realized that although I wore this outfit a while back, I still hadn't posted it! I suppose this is a good start to my April goal of getting on top of blogging! I'm also researching how to add different side-bars and things like that to my blog, so be on the lookout for some new things coming soon! Anyway, back to the outfit. I like this outfit despite the fact that I threw it on before going last minute prom dress shopping with my friend Gabby. There are some amazing thrift stores here in New York, and I recently got this red blazer at one of them for only $4! I'm also wearing one of the scarves I got in London, rose earrings, black ankle boots, and jeans. Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Super Bowl Style

I am not a football person. I don't understand it, I don't particularly enjoy watching it, and yet I go to the Super Bowl parties. Why? Because I am a social person and I like to eat. Yesterday was no different. I went to the on post youth group's Super Bowl party, and I had a blast! However, because I am not a football person, I had no idea who to root for, and thus what to wear. I obviously do not have a team jersey I can wear! Someone had told me that the two teams were red and purple, and my mother had the fabulous idea of wearing both!
I am wearing a red long sleeved top, a purple sweater, a black skirt, red tights, purple knee-high socks with red triangles, my wool multi-colored TOMS, my red scarf, and a purple ring that is way too big for any of my fingers so it kept falling off. This picture was taken before I had earrings on, but I was also wearing cute little ladybug earrings. And thus whichever team won, I could technically say I rooted for them by wearing their team colors. :) I also made cookies, because I can't go to a party without making something sweet and they were fabulous, if I do say so myself. I found the recipe on Pinterest (I'm addicted). They were cookie dough on the bottom, then a layer of oreos, then brownies; baked at 350 for 35 minutes. SO RICH. SO GOOD. But be warned, take these somewhere because if you leave them home you will eat them all and gain 20 pounds. I'm not kidding, they are addicting.

It's Christmastime!

Merry Christmas Everyone!! I hope you have all had a very happy day! Below you will find pictures of my Christmas Festivities!
My family before heading out on our Christmas Eve Service marathon. This year we only went to three, in years past we've been to four. I got sparkly tights for Christmas, so I decided to wear them right away! :)

This is what I wore to the Christmas service. It was the third outfit I tried on this morning! I'm wearing my zebra print skirt, black boots, red tights (which you could see when I walked), and my red scarf.
And finally, the Christmas tree we made out of mormon hymnals at the Chapel on post! We used them because they were green! :) I love Pinterest Ideas! Merry Christmas guys!

OOTD-Something Thrifted and Kinda Big News

Hey Guys! This past week my family (my sister is home!!) and I went to the Biltmore Estates for Christmas. We had just gone to two garage sales a couple days before where I got this adorable gold belt that I'm wearing in the picture below. I was a little hesitant about it at first, but then I was like "heck, for $3 I can wear it once and it'll be worth it" and I thus talked myself into it. And then my mom paid! I love decisions like that. But anyway, back to the outfit. :)
I'm wearing black skinny jeans (free), black wedges from my aunt, a red long-sleeved shirt (thrifted), the gold belt (thrifted), a black scarf belted so it's kind of like a vest (thrifted), and gold Christmas tree earrings (thrifted). PLUS...did you notice something a little strange about the above picture? Ding ding ding! I dyed my hair red! I absolutely love it! It's only supposed to last about a month, so we'll see if I'm going to do it again in January. I really like it now, but I'm not sure if I'll be tired of it by then. What do you think?

October Dress Project: Day Thirty-One

It's the last day!! I get to wear normal clothes tomorrow! I can't tell you how excited I am to wear jeans and a sweater. But, I went out with a bang, wearing TWO outfits with the dress today. One for the day time, and one as my Halloween costume.
The first is me with fellow ODPer Melanie. I'm wearing the dress, a black sweater over top, a pink scarf, black boots, and black cat earrings.
The second is me with my sister, both in our Halloween costumes. She's Woody (from Toy Story), and I'm Amelia Pond (from Doctor Who). I'm wearing the dress pinned up to be a mini skirt, black tights, a gray cami, a red shirt, a brown jacket, and cowboy boots. Happy Halloween and last day of the October Dress Project everyone!

October Dress Project: Day Twenty-Eight

Hello Everyone! Today was super busy (driving home from Charlotte, babysitting, church, then babysitting again, now I'm doing school!), so my outfit was pretty simple. I can't believe there's only three days left! The month has FLOWN past.
Today I wore the dress, a black and white striped shirt/dress over, purple shoes, a purple scarf, and a black headband. I didn't end up wearing the scarf all day because most of the day was spent either driving or babysitting.

October Dress Project: Day Twenty-Five

As of today there are only six days left! I'm excited and sad at the same time. But, I think it's super easy to be sad before you have access to your entire closet again. Come next Thursday, I think I'll be celebrating!
Today I wore the dress, a white skirt over top (fun fact about this skirt: the first time I wore it my dad said "the next time you wear that slip wear a skirt over top." then my mother told him it was a skirt... He still doesn't like it!), a white tank top underneath, a black scarf, black slipons, and the same black headband from yesterday. Also, this is the first time I have the traveling earrings!! My friends Rachel and Lindsay and I decided that we were going to start traveling earrings (inspired by "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"), and so this week and next week I have them! I'm super excited that I get to wear them with my dress! Two things I love together. :)

October Dress Project: Day Twenty-Three

Patterns, patterns, patterns!! Y'all already know I love zebra print, but here's another fun fact: I love England! I've been there twice and it's one of my dreams to open a bakery/bookshop in downtown London. Oh, and marry a ginger Englishman so I can have adorable ginger English babies. But anyway...

Today was pattern day. I LOVE putting patterns on top of each other! So I'm wearing the dress, my union jack scarf, a zebra print sweater (fun fact about this sweater: I picked it out in the resale shop and my mom thought it was going to be awful, but when I tried it on she really liked it!), zebra print sequin shoes, zebra print white earrings, and a black bow headband. So that's all for day twenty-three, see you guys tomorrow! :)

October Dress Project: Day Eighteen

Hello all! Today's day eighteen, I'm getting close to the end! Lots of exciting stuff happened today! I took my final for English so I'm finally done with that horrible class, I've caved in to peer pressure and got a twitter, and my grandma's in town so I get to hang out with her! :)
So today I'm wearing the dress, a gray top from my grandma (fun fact about this top: I wore it on the plane to London and set off every metal detector because of the buttons and buckles), silver sparkly TOMS, a black scarf (originally $28, I got it a thrift store for $3) and silver jingly earrings. Plus my adorable dog Hank. :) See y'all tomorrow!

October Dress Project: Day Sixteen

So I thought it was freezing today, so I wore a scarf and a sweater, only to find out when I went out that it was actually a decent temperature outside. I ended up only wearing the scarf because it was just too warm to wear the sweater!
So I'm wearing the dress with a purple sweater (when I got this sweater my sister looked at it like "oh my word, you're really going to try that on?" but now she likes it), a purple scarf my mom made for me yesterday, purple earrings from my aunt and uncle, and super old purple wedges. I also have a little purple flower in my hair, but you can't see it. So that's day sixteen, only fifteen days left!!

And here's yet another gem found on Pinterest. I totally agree, wear what you think looks good, not what some random person says looks good!

Freebies

Freebies are the best, especially when you can actually make them work. I received two freebies today, and I have to admit, I was definitely skeptical. But, according to the person giving them to me, the dress "screamed my name" and I could "make it work." So I ended up bringing it home, and trying to make it work. I believe it's supposed to be a swimsuit cover-up, but I think it's pretty cute as a dress.
What it looked like when I received it
After some doctoring, along with my dog, who makes everything cuter! I added: black leggings, a black tank top, my favorite sandals, and a black scarf tied around my middle.

'Tis the Season...

For Scarves! I love scarves. All colors, all kinds. I tie scarves in my hair, loop them around my waist, wear them as a belt, and actually wear them as a scarf. There is always a way to wear a scarf, no matter your body shape! Scarves are a super easy way to dress up an outfit quickly and adorably. So wear a scarf today, and feel extraordinary!
